Preliminary Activities involves all the activities that will be carried out to help children with phonemic awareness- knowledge of sounds with their corresponding objects or picture cards.

Preliminary activities in a Montessori classroom is divided into two.
1. Enrichment of vocabulary 
2. Language training

Enrichment of vocabulary the child learn new words on a daily basis through formal lessons and classified groups. Introduce the child to three words/pictures per day using 3 period lesson. Here is a collections of about 100+ cards for activities in enrichment of vocabulary.

Pink Series
The Pink Series is the scheme that exposes children to two or three letter words that are phonetically pronounced.

There are six boxes in this scheme and each is classified under the short vowel sounds of “a”, “e”, “i”, “o” and “u”. The sixth box comprises of boxes 1-5

The activities under this scheme to help children read 2 and 3 letter words that are phonetically pronounced include:

. Word building with object and LMA
. Word building with objects and name tags
. Substitution cards
. Pink Action words
. Sentence cards
. Pink series sight words - use 3 period lesson

Pink Series Book One

This is a collection of cards for each of the boxes in the Montessori Language Pink Series. It contain "Read and trace the words and complete the sentence. It is a fun way of teaching children how to read and write three letter words. Get the printable here for FREE

Word families are great help for children. They are group of words that have same ending sounds or blends. These words have same ending rhymes thereby helping children say words effortlessly. 

Research by Wylie and Durrell identified The 37 most common word families in English and they are: ack, ain, ake, ale, all, ame, an, ank, ap, ash, at, ate, aw ay, eat, ell, est, ice, ick, ide, ight, ill, in, ine, ing, ink, ip, it, ock, oke, op, ore, ot, uck ,ug, ump, unk.
